Following are two beautiful vintage tree illustrations.
The first is an illustration of birch trees in a meadow at the edge of a forest. One tree is prominent in the foreground, with several individual birch trees behind. The caption below the illustration is:
White or Paper Birch.
Campton, Grafton Co., N.H.
The second of the vintage tree illustrations features a country scene with a large chestnut tree at the edge of a narrow dirt road. A wooden fence is on the opposite side of the road. More trees are behind the fence and in the background of the overall scene. The caption below this image is:
Chestnut.
Upper Solburg, Bucks Co., Penn.
I scanned the images from a book titled, “Familiar Trees and their Leaves”, described and illustrated by F. Schuyler Matthews. The book was published in 1903.
