She is wearing a knee-length dress that has ruffles at the armhole and hem and a ribbon at the waist that is tied into a bow at the back. She has on a sunbonnet with a large brim that covers her face. Her name is Kitty Malcolm. The image is from the September 1885 issue of St. Nicholas magazine.
