Columbia Bicycle Magazine Ad

July 3, 2014 2 Comments

Here is a fun vintage magazine advertisement for a Columbia bicycle. The ad claims the bicycle is easy to learn to ride and that an ordinary rider can go more miles in a day over common roads than a horse. Great images for your steampunk or mixed media projects! I scanned the original ad from the November 1879 issue of the American Agriculturist magazine. I can’t even imagine how you’d be able to get on (much less ride) this — goodness. Thx so much for the image!

That’s funny Elaine. 🙂 I can’t imagine how they got on and also thought about how unpleasant it would be to take a fall from a bike this high!
