Little Bear
November 3, 1998 – June 7, 2013
We adopted Little Bear when he was 5 1/2 weeks old and after 14 1/2 years, we had to say goodbye to our precious old boy. He had arthritis that became so bad that his legs were giving out. We saw him deteriorate more each day in the last week. It became difficult for him to get up from a lying or sitting position and he was beginning to stumble and sometimes trip when he walked. Yesterday the vet said he may have a week or two left but that he may have an accident and hurt himself since he wasn’t walking well. We didn’t want to risk that or see him get worse than he already was so we chose to let him go now. Ken and I snuggled our precious Little Bear as our dear vet put him to sleep.
I have more pictures of Little Bear that I may post one day in memory of him but for now, both Ken and I are suffering with broken hearts.

So sorry on your beloved dog! I know it has to be hard for you right now. I still think about my cat that I lost a year ago. Those animal friends can become such a big part of our lives and hearts! Prayers to you.

Querida,
Regina.

I feel for you. We are getting into the same situation. Our old lady is starting to do the same thing and we think it is getting about time to put her down. We keep putting it off though. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain.

Lots of lovely images here.
So sorry to hear about your dog. This is such a hard thing to do and I hope your memories will help to ease your pain with time. We have only done this once but I remember it like it was yesterday.

Thank you, sweet hearts, for your kind thoughts and prayers and also for sharing your experiences with the loss of a pet.
Marilyn, I’m so sorry that you’re near the end with your old girl. I’m glad she isn’t in pain. Little Bear’s pain was under control with medication (tramadol, meloxicam and gabapentin) and supplements (fish oil, glucosamine and an excellent product called E-Z Mobility by Omega Alpha).
It’s been a very difficult, very sad weekend and right now I don’t ever want to go through this kind of heartbreak again. The only way to avoid it will be to avoid adopting another pet but Ken and I both love animals so I don’t know how that will eventually turn out.
I know our grieving process isn’t over by any means but I’m going to push myself to do some normal things today. I find enjoyment in working on the free images for you and I’m planning to do some of that as well. I hope to have at least one free image uploaded for you at some point today.

Having just gone through this in February, my heart breaks for you both. We still grieve our loving dog but in our hearts we know it was the best thing for her. I’m so sorry for your loss.

There’s nothing I can possibly say to make the pain go away. I am very sorry for your loss of Little Bear. Sometimes life is just a very big sad. I am suffering the loss of my wonderful husband and it is a new puppy ( saved from a kill shelter) that has brought me love , comfort and great happiness. I hope that you and your husband will be able to adopt another dog someday. It’s also good to be creative. That’s how I found your wonderful web site. Thank-you, many hugs, and continue the great work.

My heart goes out to you Karen. I’m so very sorry to hear that you’ve lost your husband. I truly dislike the very big sad times in life.
I completely agree that being creative helps. In the last week, hubby and I have been going through the pictures I’ve taken and the videos he’s captured of Little Bear over the years, both to reminisce and to plan for creative projects we have in mind. Ken is planning to make a video (he can incorporate some of my pictures) and I’m thinking one of those online create-a-book things – one I create my own pages with, if there is such a thing. I’ll have to do some research.
I’m so happy to know that you rescued a puppy from the kill shelter (bless your soul!) and that the puppy has brought you love, comfort and happiness.
