This illustration, titled Races of Mankind, is in response to a request from a blog reader. The illustration features a total of 33 peoples from a variety of five races: Mongolian, Caucasian, Malay, American and Ethiopian.
The artist was F. E. Wright, and the image was copyrighted in 1910. The copyright is now expired. I scanned the original page from a dictionary in my collection that was published in 1922.

Hi
That picture of the 33 races in your newsletter is fantastic. It was interesting though because there were no Australian aboriginals that I could see represented, or Maori peoples. Do you have any other vintage race pictures? These were probably the ones the artist travelled to or saw. I also come from Africa so southern African people who are different again were not in the picture. It would be fascinating to see vintage artwork of people who travelled in the 17 or 1800s how the saw different races. Anyway this is fantastic. Thanks.

You’re welcome, Joanna. ? I wish there were illustrations of more peoples of the world included in this dictionary; however, this was the only one. If I come across others I may have in some of my other antique books, I’ll be sure to share them.
