Here is a beautiful vintage specimen of flourishing. The illustration includes two birds, a butterfly, and plenty of intricate, elegant swirls.
The description for the plate from the book is: “Plate VIII is an original off-hand specimen of flourishing, the curves, proportion and shades in which should be carefully observed.”
The lovely pen work was created by Thomas E. Hill.
Here is a black and white version of the beautiful birds and swirls, with the wording removed.
I scanned the original image from Hill’s Manual of Social and Business Forms by Thos. E. Hill. The book was published in 1887.
New in my Etsy shop this week is a coffee dyed printable music paper pack. An antique piece of sheet music, or song cover page, is digitally stamped on the left and on the right of each page. Ink saver printable pages with the images on a white background are also included in the listing.
Preview image is linked to my Etsy shop.

The birds and swirls reminded me to ask you if you have birds in a nest that is rather like this one? I’ll go to your shop to look.
