This vintage illustration of a bird aviary is titled (the) Highest Type of Indoor Aviary. The merriam-webster.com dictionary defines an aviary as: a place (as a large cage or a building) where birds are kept.
The bird aviary illustration features a large enclosed room with plenty of trees and shrubbery on all sides, and a fountain in the center of a cobblestone floor. A wicker chair is in the foreground on the lower right. One bird is perched on the seat of the chair, while several other birds can be seen throughout the image. Some birds are flying about, some are perched on the rocks surrounding the waterfall, and some are feeding on the ground.
Here is a black and white clip art version.
I scanned the image from Canaries and Cage-Birds by George H. Holden. The book was published in 1895.
New in my Etsy shop this week is a printable set of book pages. The pages are yellowed and aged and feature a variety of bird cages. I included the title page and two pages of price lists from the book.
Preview image is linked to my Etsy shop.
