This first paragraph on the back of this vintage clip art advertising card explains the colorful illustration of lovers on the front of the card, “According to a prevalent European legend, Wells, when in the mood, would answer lovers’ questions. In our picture, the maiden having addressed her queries at a propitious moment, is being favored, as she thinks, by an answer from the Well, but really from the lover, whom she supposes far away.”
The back of the vintage card is advertising for Dr. Jayne’s Tonic Vermifuge, Dr. Jayne’s Sanative Pills and Dr. Jayne’s Expectorant. It was claimed the tonic could cure a wide variety of ailments, including worms in children which may be evidenced in the child with symptoms such as: strange cravings, nose picking, thirst, bad breath and grinding of teeth.
