Thank you, that is SO pretty. Two of my favorite things are yellow roses and old-fashioned purple lilacs. When I was a young girl, Avon used to sell a lilac toilet water for the girls, and I loved it and drenched myself in it as long as I could obtain it. Lilac is a very distinctive and under-rated scent! Why do so many hybrid lilacs not have the scent?!

It sounds like this card is just the thing for you! 🙂 I remember the Avon perfumes and the wonderful variety of bottle shapes and colors it used to come in. It’s funny that you used to drench yourself in the lilac toilet water.
There is a lilac tree in front of the house I’m living in now and when the lilacs are in bloom, I bring in bouquets of them. I love their scent. I didn’t know the hybrid lilacs don’t have the scent. That is unfortunate.

Hi, Julie, so glad for you that you have a nice lilac bush. I have one again, now, but it is not big enough yet for cutting.
There is another “secret” about the old time common lilac that I love: The tree or bush spreads by somehow sprouting up from the roots around the outside of itself, so that over much time, the center of the plant dies out of old age, and the newer parts form a ring. The great old lilac bush in my grandpa’s yard was like this, with a clear space in the middle several feet across. We girls used to crawl in between the trunks and hide in our fragrant fairy fortress while the grownups played cards on the porch.
What a wonderful memory that is, Sharon! It’s no wonder you love the scent of lilacs. 🙂
