Here is an image of a lovely Victorian lady sitting on a sofa with a cushion behind her and one at her side. She is holding a large transparent fan that covers the lower half of her face. The lady is wearing an off-the-shoulders gown and long gloves. Her hair is styled in an updo and finished with a bow. The image is from the March 1900 issue of The Delineator magazine.
