This vintage magazine advertisement for Rock Island-Frisco Lines claims you can travel to Switzerland in a night. Well, not really, “but you can leave Chicago or St. Louis today and be in the Colorado Rockies tomorrow long before dinner.
You can take the Rock Island to the Rockies, the only line with direct service to both Denver and Colorado Springs, from Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Memphis or Birmingham and have your vacation start when the train starts. On the deluxe Rocky Mountain Limited you will find everything you expect in perfect train service and some comforting details you will not expect.”
The ad includes an image of a mother travelling with her young son and daughter. They children are excited about the snow-topped mountain in the distance as they look through the large window from where they sit.
