My dad passed away when I was seven. Mom had never worked outside the home prior to his passing and suddenly she was left to provide for herself and four young girls on her own. Mom did the best she knew how but we lived through a few lean years.
One of those lean Christmases, we were given gifts from either a Santa’s Anonymous type program or perhaps through the church we attended in the small town where we lived at the time. I was 10 and I received the book, “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott from a generous stranger. Although I have received many gifts in my life, that is one gift I will never forget – and from that point forward, books have held a special place in my heart. So, I truly love this Etsy treasury, “Overdue Books!” and send a huge thank you to curator sweetdashsprout for including my vintage-style library cards.
