Since my friend Jen and I went grocery shopping yesterday and I had all the lovely fresh ingredients on hand, I made (my first-time) Pho Bo for Ken and I for lunch today! I basically followed a recipe by Richard Blaine, a guy I recently discovered on YouTube.
I didn’t make my own bouquet garni. Instead, I used this product that a Chinese friend introduced me to:
It comes with two premade sachets but only requires one sachet per recipe. I also didn’t make the Nuoc Cham Sauce that Richard Blaine includes. I’m sure it’s divine but I served my Pho Bo with hoisin and sriracha on the side.
This is a picture of my finished product: It was a long process but well worth it. I am so pleased with my first try at Pho Bo! I think it tasted heavenly. Ken isn’t crazy about homemade soup but he heartily enjoyed this dish and said he would definitely eat it again.
