This vintage magazine article features a Christmas tea cozy decorated with holly and mistletoe designs. The article was submitted by a reader named Harriet Ogden Morison. Harriet explains in her article that a properly made tea cozy is almost an essential to the properly made cup of tea, and no Christmas present could be more acceptable than one of these useful little adjuncts to the tea table. The cozy is made of two semi-circles of silk, velvet or satin, which are padded with cotton, lined with silk, and joined together with a silk cord, outlining the base of the semi-circle, which is left open so it may slip over the teapot. The lining is kept as soft as possible.
The design on the front of the tea cozy is an illustration of holly and berries. The back of the tea cozy is a design of mistletoe and berries.
Here are larger, black and white clip art versions of the holly and mistletoe designs.
I scanned the original article from the December 1897 issue of The Ladies’ Home Journal magazine.
New in my Etsy shop this week is a printable Christmas ephemera kit. Printable pages (convenient for junk journal artists) and the individual images (convenient for digital scrapbook/card maker artists, etc.) are all included in the set.

And I was inspired (to do a Christmas kit) from the crafters on YouTube who are already doing Christmas projects. 🙂
