Here are two beautiful vintage illustrations of song sparrows in spring.
The first illustration, by Edmund J. Sawyer, features a sweet singing song sparrow perched on a thin tree branch that is blooming in pussy willows.
Here is a cleaner, black and white clip art version of the song sparrow on the tree branch.
The second image, also by Edmund J. Sawyer, features an adorable song sparrow perched on a small branch overlooking a nest. The nest is filled with four speckled eggs. Flowers that look like daisies are growing among grasses on the ground below.
Here is a black and white version of the song sparrow overlooking the nest.
I scanned these illustrations of song sparrows in spring from the March – April 1918 issue of a magazine titled Bird-Lore.
New in my Etsy shop this week is a second set of printable vintage magazine advertisements.
Also new to my shop this week is a set of printable grungy fabric papers (additional previews are included in my shop listing).
I learned how to make the grungy fabric I scanned for this set from Nik the Booksmith’s course “The Booksmith Antiquarian” on teachable.com.
Preview images are linked to my shop.

I love these little birds! Thanks for sharing!
I think with the stripes on their chest, and across their eye, and with the speckled eggs,
that they are Song Sparrows, and not Robins.

These are wonderful images for Spring!

Carole, you are right! I went back to the magazine and it says they are song sparrows. Not sure where I got the idea they were robins. I’ll change my blog post. Thank you! I’m glad you like the images. 🙂

Hi, I love your free prints that you send me, but this one I am disappointed with because I keep getting ‘Error 404’ when I try to access it. Am I the only one that this is happening to? I really love the things you send, so as you can imagine I am upset that I cant see or get to the robin one. Would you please be kind enough to send it to me again without the link being broken?
Thank you in anticipation
