This shabby vintage postcard back includes a handwritten message, dated 1917, to Ada from Lila. Lila is sending simple but hearty greetings for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year, as well as good wishes to both Ada and Mr. Noyes. An American Red Cross Christmas – New Year seal is in the upper right hand corner of the postcard. The seal, dated 1917, includes an illustration of a red cross on a shield tucked into an evergreen tree.

This is so interesting to me, as my grandmother’s name was Ada, and we have Noyes family on her side. It could be someone related. I’ll have to check into it. Thank you!

That is very interesting, Peggy! I would love to know if you discover that this is someone from your family history!

In looking at my history and the date, it appears these are not my direct line, but probably cousins. My grandmother Ada lived at the right time, but she was not Mrs. Noyes. The nearest Noyes is a couple generations back from her. I would need Mr. Noyes’ first name to connect them. But my grandmother’s own grandmother’s name was Ada too, and her grandmother was a Noyes. So, it is likely someone in the family. Still fun!

I agree, Peggy, still fun, and very interesting! 🙂

Oh, how charming! I deduce that Lila was not only thinking of her friend Ada, but a young man that she had met through Ada, one of Ada’s twice-removed Noyes cousins, perhaps, and in this genteel way was inquiring of him! I hope that Ada wrote back.

I’m glad you like it, Sharon. I too hope that Ada wrote back to Lila. It would be interesting to know the stories of their lives.

This is quite charming, enjoyed reading the wording on the postcard and was left wondering if the 2 ladies ever saw each other again, I hope that they did. Thank-you!

Hi Linda,
I too hope they saw each other again. Inquiring minds want to know. 🙂 Although we never will know for certain, I think a good story writer could base an entire book on this brief handwritten message. He or she could tell us who Ada was, who Lila was, how they were connected, and who, exactly, was Mr. Noyes.
Hope you are doing well.
Julie
