Here is an antique invitation to the “Second Cotillon at Sherry’s on Monday evening, January twenty-eighth, from nine until one o’clock.” I learned from an online search that a cotillon is a lively French country dance that originated in France in the 18th century.

I scanned the original invitation from the January 1896 issue of The Delineator magazine.
I can’t wait to use this in one of my”junk journals”……Do you have any idea how these invitation worked? I see all the ladies names below but who are they inviting?
