This vintage advertising card features an image of an adorable Victorian boy sitting on a rugged fence. He is holding a sprig of holly and berries. Although bits of snow cover the fence rail, the bench the boy’s feet are resting on and the trees in the background, it must not be a cold day because the boy is wearing short pants. The advertising on the card is: Compliments of Fairchild & Shelton. Washing made easy by using Ozone Soap.

I am not sure that the boy would have been wearing longer trousers even if it were a colder day. In my young day, boys wore short trousers all year round, even in winter. They were based on a pair of the father’s or older brother’s trousers with the legs cut off.
