Ariosa Coffee Victorian Card ~ Free Graphics

Here is a Victorian advertising card for Arbuckle’s Ariosa coffee. The front of the card includes an illustration of four birds. Three of the birds are nestled in deep grass and one bird is about to fly off (or is perhaps returning to the others in the grass). From the information included on the back of this card, I assume the birds are quail.

The back of the card includes advertising for Arbuckle’s Ariosa Coffee and cooking notes (recipes) for Quail Pie, Roasted Quail and French Style Quail.

Edited to add: A blog reader sent me a message to say the birds on the front of the card may be bobwhite quail.

  1. Boy, this card is a gem. I’ve not seen one like it before. The birds look so sweet (like they should be cooed at), and then there’s the back of the card telling you how to cook with them. Me thinks that folks were a bit more practical a hundred years ago.

Thanks again for all your efforts in sharing these fabulous images.

  2. You’re welcome Angela and Marcie. I’m glad you like it.
Marcie, I think you’re right about folks being more practical a hundred years ago.
