Here is a vintage engraving of a cow standing in a field with trees in the distant background. The cow is a Norfolk Polled Heifer. I was curious to know what a heifer is so I looked it up. It is a young female cow that has not borne a calf. The image is from the September 1878 issue of the American Agriculturist magazine.
