Here is an intricately detailed ornate chair. It’s from a new (old) book I’ve just added to my collection. The book is: A Handbook of Ornament by Franz Sales Meyer, circa 1877.

Years ago, I pulled a chair similar to this out of the neighborhood trash (I have no shame!). It’s not quite so ornate, but a huge throne of a chair, in terrible condition. I showed to to an upholsterer and he said to hang on to it, it was a German chair from the middle/late 1800s. It’s still in the barn waiting to be reupholstered. It goes with no home decor at all!
