It’s a little early for Christmas but I couldn’t wait to share this vintage Fruit and Spice Cakes recipe page with you. It’s from Igleheart’s Cake Secrets, 1922.Â
You’re welcome Joyce. It does sound yummy. One of my grandmas used to make fruitcake for Christmas but I don’t know anyone who makes it anymore. If I remember correctly, the recipe my grandma used had to be aged for weeks after baking but it doesn’t mention anything about aging in this recipe.
How lovely of you to offer these old fruit cake recipes. I believe the cakes were aged when brandy was added to allow the cake to become infused with the flavor. It also may have made them last longer. You could google it and maybe learn more. My grandmother made fab fruit cakes and I have none of her recipes.
Blessings to all reading this.
