Before our third sleep in our new bed, I went out and bought a new pillow. I don’t know if that’s what did the trick or if it was because I started getting used to the bed but I had a great sleep that night and I’m now fully comfortable on the new mattress. I’m so thankful for that.
I bought new towels and a bath mat set for our ensuite. They seemed to match when I had them in the cart in the store but when I brought everything home and put the items in place, the bath mat set looked too blue! I returned it and have yet to find a better match but right now I’m sick of shopping so I feel like ‘whatever’. I don’t care if I have to go a while without a set. I also bought a new set of sheets and and as I was putting a pillow into one of the pillowcases, the pillowcase tore along the side. That meant another trip back to the store. I phoned ahead and since they had several of the same sheet sets in stock, they were able to exchange the pillowcase without me returning the full set of sheets.
California closets and/or good quality closet organizers are a lot more expensive than we imagined! We are now considering a much less expensive closet solution for the things we keep in dresser drawers and may redo our home office rather than the closet. We bought our home nearly seven years ago and do a little refurnishing, renovating and decorating each year. Our home office is our last room to do. Ken painted the walls last spring so we just need (want) new office furniture.
I’m not crazy about shopping and I’m even less crazy about returning things so I’m looking forward to our nest being fully feathered and the shopping complete.
At work, I discovered that I had some leave that I hadn’t used yet! I put it towards a few days off at the end of my employment so my last day of work is now May 31st instead of June 6th! One of my boys and his family is coming to visit on June 7th so it’s going to be wonderful to have the extra time to prepare for their visit.
And, I’ve discovered something new (new to me). I’ve seen many wonderful journals such as this one:
on Pinterest. I’ve repinned some of them. I absolutely love this art and I want to learn how to do it. It reminds me of scrapbooking and I’ve done plenty of that (both paper and digital). I’ve always loved a lot of layering on my pages but I don’t know what kind of journal to use. Are there journals being made for this specific purpose or do people use any kind of a journal type book? Do any of you create these types of journals? How did you get started? If you have any tips or links you could pass along, I would greatly appreciate it.
Have a wonderful week!

Hi Julie,
I don’t know much about it but love the idea of trying it too. I’ve heard of “Vintage Collage Journaling” before and this seems to fit the bill and certainly you’re superbly placed to use your own ephemera to create original artworks. Here’s a link to a book https://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Collage-Journals-Journaling-Ephemera/dp/1592535763. There’s probably much more out there…..try an Google Image search and see what it throws up. I was chatting to a lady in a Mixed Media Forum this morning and she mentioned something similar to your image and her wish to create them but of course she’d be mixing traditional media (acrylics, watercolours etc) which would interest me too. These would be amazing original pieces to create and put your own unique stamp on them. If I came to your house and saw what you have on hand to use for something like this, I’d behave like a kid in a candy shop…..!!!!! haha

This is a good idea using a book that is falling apart, literally, at the seams…

Both that book on Amazon and the journal you’ve linked to have me even more excited to learn this, Pauline! I really LOVE that journal! In fact, I think I’m going to pin it. 🙂 I definitely will do some searching on Google but sometimes someone has a great link that can save some time searching through a bunch of Google leads (such as the ones you’ve just led me directly to).
We would have so much fun if you could come to my house and create things with me! Too bad you live half a world away…
However, I don’t know if I have the heart to glue original vintage ephemera down to a page. Does that defeat the whole purpose of creating a journal like this? I’m also thinking I’d like to do one of random things in my life…like a scrapbook. I’m imagining photos and journalling, combined with layers of vintage things (maybe digital printables) and shabby things. This is going to be fun!

Julie, you might want to take a look at what sherrieJD does.

and here is a project that I just checked out last week

Just to give you an idea how people create these projects.
You can use everything you have, whether it be scrapbooking products, vintage images, “junk” like tags from clothes or pieces from cardboard packaging, to envelopes and sachets. Whatever you can find and like.
HTH!
And thanks again for all your lovely free images.

This is excellent and helpful information, Sandra! Thank you so much for sharing.
You’re welcome for the free images. 🙂
